DBrown founded and qualified this non-profit organization in 2004. His tireless efforts building the vision and bringing IFO to reality gained him acclaim in the business world of philanthropy. He is currently the Executive Director and runs the daily operations, as a full time and then some, volunteer. He is also responsible for all the publicity and production of events benefitting IFO as well. His personal philosophy of leader-servant is brought to action in his efforts for this and other causes. The next phase of his education for kids plans to implement after school arts programs, starting in music, for public schools in need of more fine arts funding. DBrown says “…rather than fight the bad definitions for funding at the state and federal levels of political bureaucracy, we can go right to work with the kids, if the local private sector will support these programs in every school. The resources are already in our communities; not everyone sees the answers at hand.”
DBrown has worked with special needs children since youth. As an elementary school student, DBrown volunteered in the ‘buddies’ program for special education students at his school. He spent his lunches and recesses twice a week with his buddy, learning a different way to see the world. DBrown commented “…I don’t know who really taught who…I learned how to listen and speak with my whole being…in the way we helped each other.” In Houston, he developed his own visual art workshops implemented through the Avondale School for autistic kids. Upon moving to Austin, for many years, DBrown took it upon himself to collect used heavy clothing from friends and hand-deliver these needed resources to homeless people on the streets during winter cold spells. These are just a few of the official and unofficial ways DBrown Fisher has helped within his community.
