Master Thief
Open your heart
Before I steal it from you
You don’t deserve it
Anymore to abuse
How can you treat
Something so dear
As the rag doll you feel like
And the ignorance you fear.
Give me that treasure
Before it tarnishes and turns
Into the pile of disaster
Under which it now yearns
To rise like the phoenix
From the ashes of regret
To the heavens of desire
In my burning covet
I will carry it bold
Like Mercury on lighting
From gods of old
To a new place unknown
Unlike the reasons
You stubbornly withhold
As to the whereabouts of a key
To unbolt your heart’s cage
For in my trust you will see
A most worthy sage.
For in you I have dreamed
Cautiously ventured
Wandered your mind’s halls
Sat in your gardens
Drank your intoxication
Heard your bird’s song
Sad and disheartened
For your heart was guarded
With gargoyles that scare
Away most others
I see through the veil
I approach and knock
You say stay out of here
I’m not welcome to walk
Alongside your passions
And the innermost I have sought.
So if this treasure is so great
In you I am the master thief
For if you will not open your heart
To steal it must be my fate.
Since you see the tricks in my bag
They will not work on you
Trust is not a game to play
Respect is not a clue
To the mystery you cloak
Beneath expressions subdued
They are the very nature
Techniques of the master thief
As well my humble offerings
For any words unjust
Your open heart is all I seek
But I’ll steal it if I must.
