The Night I Spent In Jail
THE NIGHT I SPENT IN JAIL
A dead man’s funeral
Procession blocks my path
For how long we
Have both sat
Still
He in coffin
Me in cell
Wondering where my twelve
Hours overnight
Went to time’s reaper
A night incarcerated
To stop for death
Out of respect
I quietly await my release
Not him
Not them
Lost in coffins
Built in war
